Rail System Target Announced in Istanbul: Aiming to Solve Traffic Problems

Rail system investments are accelerating to address Istanbul’s traffic issues. Authorities aim to expand the total network length to 1,000 kilometers.

Efforts are underway to increase rail system investments in Istanbul as a solution to traffic congestion. It has been emphasized that rail system projects in Istanbul should be prioritized, with plans to expand the city’s transportation infrastructure as ongoing projects are completed.

1,000-Kilometer Rail System Target

Officials highlighted the need to develop underground transportation networks to solve Istanbul’s traffic problem. In this context, it was stated that the total length of rail systems in Istanbul is targeted to reach 1,000 kilometers.

Current Status of Ongoing Projects

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that with the completion of the 27-kilometer line currently under construction by the Ministry, a total of 189 kilometers of rail system will have been added to Istanbul. Combined with projects carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality, this length is expected to reach approximately 400 kilometers.

New Lines to Be Put into Service

In the near future, the rail system line between Halkalı and Arnavutköy is also planned to be opened. Increasing rail system investments in Istanbul aims to make urban transportation more sustainable.

Authorities emphasize that the current transportation infrastructure in Istanbul is insufficient due to the growing population and density. Therefore, rail system projects in Istanbul stand out as a key solution to reduce traffic congestion.
