Anthropic and Amazon Deal: $5 Billion Investment, $100 Billion Cloud Commitment

Anthropic received a $5 billion investment from Amazon and committed to spending $100 billion on AWS over 10 years in return.

Anthropic and Amazon have entered into a new agreement that highlights a notable partnership in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. While Amazon is making a new $5 billion investment in the company, the total investment has reached $13 billion.

$100 Billion AWS Commitment

The most striking part of the agreement is Anthropic’s large-scale spending commitment to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company plans to use more than $100 billion in cloud services over the next 10 years.

As part of this, Anthropic will gain up to 5 gigawatts of new computing capacity to train and run its Claude AI models.

Custom AI Chips to Be Used

At the center of the deal are Amazon’s custom-built processors. The energy-efficient Graviton chips and the Trainium series, positioned as AI accelerators, will be used in this collaboration.

In particular, the chip lineup ranging from Trainium2 to Trainium4 is included in the agreement. There is also an option to purchase capacity for Trainium4, which has not yet been released.

Similar to Major Industry Deals

This agreement resembles a similar investment model Amazon recently executed with another AI company. In such deals, cloud infrastructure plays a key role alongside direct financial investment.

Signal of a New Funding Round

Anthropic’s latest development could signal a larger upcoming funding round. There are expectations that the company’s valuation could exceed $800 billion.

The agreement demonstrates how strategic partnerships between AI companies and cloud providers are rapidly expanding.
